    About this paper

    Normal probability paper

On normal probability paper the vertical axis is spaced by the inverse of the normal distribution, from 0.01% at the bottom to 99.99% at the top, with bold lines at 0.1, 1, 10, 50, 90, 99 and 99.9%. The horizontal axis is an ordinary linear grid for your measured values.

Sort your data, plot each value against its cumulative percentage and look at the shape. Points that fall close to a straight line suggest a normal distribution; curves and bends point to skew or outliers.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I read the mean and standard deviation?

Draw the best straight line through your points. The mean is the x value where it crosses 50%. The distance from 50% to about 84% (between the 80 and 85 lines) is one standard deviation.

How do I make sure the grid prints at the right size?

In the print dialog choose “Actual size”, “100%” or “No scaling”, and turn off “Fit to page” or “Shrink to fit”. To confirm, print our free calibration test sheet and measure the 10 cm line with a ruler.

Is it free for commercial use?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no download limit. You can use the paper for classes, worksheets, products and client work.
